We Need to be Heard, We Need a Voice

Real Salt Lake isn't giving us a voice. The Deseret News isn't giving us a voice. The Salt Lake Tribune isn't giving us a voice. The local government isn't giving us a voice. Ethan the Idiot at SLCSpin isn't giving us a voice. I feel completely unheard. I feel like I've screamed at the top of my lungs for days on end in a soundproof room, and that many of you have been in here with me all along doing the same. I'm tired.

We need to get that door cracked open, even just a little.

What can we do, that's effective, and legal? Or at least semi-legal? What can we do that we can afford? Should we all write letters to the Trib and DesNews every day? Should we all write letters to our government every day? How can we amplify our voice? Are we fighting a war we have already lost?

Yes and yes.

Would it be possible to stage a protest in front of the county building and have the press pick it up?

What would Dave have us do? What is the best way we can make our influence heard/felt?

Is sidewalk chalking illegal? I know it's dorky, but I love the idea of dozens of fans going and chalking the government buildings, demanding a voice. I'm sure we could get the media to pick the story up. It would be even cooler if we got it all planned ahead of time and then did the whole thing entirely silently, to represent our "voice in the media."

A silent protest.. awesome..

<still not sure if I'm joking or not>

I really like this idea, kind of a guerilla chalk graffiti attack with a purpose on the sidewalks...what about going downtown and near the county council offices and doing big chalk messages in the middle of the streets in the wee morning hours? An organized protest would also be nice.

Yes Geoff we need to do something...

I know i tried to plan a march from the county building to the stadium but got 2 responses...
So I scrapped the plan because three people would have looked silly.

I tried to organise a flash mob but got alot of "hey that is a great idea" but no one that actually wanted to do it.

maybe if someone else wants to organise something... it might work out...

I would be happy to join in...

How many of you have written letters to the editor? Called your elected representatives? Educated all of your family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues?

I'm sure that you will be asked to volunteer to work on some sort of pr project in the very near future.

Nah, not the middle of the night. The idea is to garner some media attention and let our "voices" be heard for once. That would happen best between 5 and 8 a.m. when we can get a local tv station to come out and cover it for their morning news.

And all of that has done a whole lot of good, hasn't it? We dont' need to educate the politicians. We need to educate the people who influence the politicians, meaning the general public. There has been such an enormous outcry by the PUBLIC regarding all this that the politicans probably didn't feel they had much of a choice, especially those hoping to get re-elected. If the general public was convinced, that would open the door for the politicans to rethink things.
