As a observer, I would just point out that aggressively trying to convince everyone to do this isn't the best use of your energy.
If ppl want to protest, let them. If they don't want to, then let them not participate. If your protest looks horrible because half the ppl are protesting and the other half is not, then thats just too bad. In case you haven't noticed, planning a grand strategy via a message board on the internet isn't the best way to do it. At least no one will see it on TV. 🙁

Hope nobody cares that I'm quoting myself :D Just thought I'd say that if we were a fan club of some other international teams, instead of trying to find a constructive way to make light of this occasion, we would be planning riots and other such activity to mark the occasion. I'd much rather make light of the situation than handle it the way they would elsewhere.

I don't think this is demeaning, humiliating or criticising the team. The black streamers mark the moment, just as you would mark a 40th birthday for someone. Did the people come to the birthday party to demean or humiliate the 40 year-old? No. The minute of silence isn't as it was conveyed in the article. We are marking the black moment with a period of silence - not because we don't/won't cheer for the team because we hate them or don't support them, or want to send them a negative message, necessarily, but to show that we are intelligent fans and are aware of the situation, and that we feel - as the team does - that this is a dark moment indeed. I feel that it's actually very symbolic that we cheer like crazy AFTER these things are done to show the team that we STILL support them, even after passing through "the valley of the shadow of death" with them. That, to me, means much more than just cheering for them throughout.
With that said, if this doesn't happen as a group, I don't think it will send the right messages (Loyalists can act as one, etc.). But I guess everyone feels a little differently about this, and a concensus hasn't been reached. What would have been good would be to have received some sort of "directive" from our leaders on this - then we could have shown more solidarity. __________________

To those who are planing on throwing black streamers: Throw a few to make up for those who will not.

Let me just say that I agree basically with Jules and Deuce (and even Hiba 😲 ). I didn't like the original idea, and I'm not real fond of this one, but I think this one is acceptable and that we should either scratch it or do it as a group. I will go ahead with it, if need be.
Egos are fragile things. The most accomplished people often have the most fragile egos. Slumps (and I think you'll agree that this counts as one of those) have more to do with damaged egos than personal skills. I am loath to add to the burden of guilt and shame. On the other had some kind of observance is expected, and observing a minute of silence is about the kindest way of showing that observance that I can think of. The black streamers emphasize it. Let's face it, the whole rest of the MLS (especially DCU) is going to be saying, "they broke the record!" and making a joke out of it. At least we aren't making a joke about it, but observing a minute of silence. Commemorating a sad occasion. I'd rather skip it, personally, but if we're going to do it, this is the softest way to do it. __________________ 🙁 Is it gametime yet? 😉 Last edited by Jim Umber : 06-22-2005 at 01:13 PM.

We could also do it another way. We still throw the black streamers. But instead of being silent and sitting down, we could turn around and face the crowd and cheer. That's right. Turning our backs to the pitch as the blackest moment in RSL history is being made. We are showing that we don't want to watch that moment with our eyes. Our team will notice a muffled sound from our section, but no big deal.

It will NOT be done as a group in the Loyalists section, so those of you who want to do it should probalby go find seats a little higher up if you want to be solitary. I mean, show solidarity. 😉 If you want to get your point across, go sit right behind the team bench for a few minutes when you do this. That'll be effective and won't make it seem like it's something "The Loyalists" are doing. This isn't something "The Loyalists" are doing. This is something that SOME fans are doing!
