Very nice article. I hope this explains to some of the idiots out there the benefits behind our own stadium.

Man, I'm waiting for any news at all. Every morning I'm up and on here to see if today is the day. Any idea how far away some type of announcement might be? I'm not sure how much more my ulcer can take.

We would suck as Metros fans.
In fact if you consider how much longer the Metro fans have waited for a stadium, I think the death rate among RSL loyalists (no pun intended) would be high.

Remember, no matter where it is built, you won't see it until (probably) the 2008 MLS season.

Obviously we won't be leaving RES anytime soon, but I think we're all just anxious to see some real progress. We want to see architectural renderings... hear who the sponsors will be... find out the final location... see some earth being moved! It's like being a kid on Christmas Eve, only the gift will cost in the tens of millions of dollars and be something of real value! I mean, it just all feels symbolic to me of, as the article said, "the growth of soccer in America," and, even better, of the permanence of MLS in Salt Lake. And, yeah, it would be nice to have some bragging rights over some of these other teams (Metros, DC, and so forth).

Stadium

I hear all the gripes and I come from Brigham, and where the extra 15min aren't terrible after driving to SLC, it's still outside of the city the team is named after, and who wants to drive through more traffic. Anyway, one of my major concerns is not if or when or even where, let's face it, unless something cataclismic happens, it will be built. The concern is what is going to be built. We need to really push for a "real" soccer stadium.
I think that it is neat that Dallas has their new home, but I can't be the only one that thinks the end with the stage is quite ugly for lack of a better term. We need to push for a fully enclosed stadium, seats all around. They can still do the stage on one side, but make it modular. Someone mentioned in another post, and I agree, we need to have some sort of cover to go over the benches. That would mak the stadium. I guess the only problem, is it could block the mountain line. One more thing, Old Trafford = Good, Pizza Hut Park = BAD! Let's come up with a descent name for this place.

Yes!!!! You are soooooo correct. Who wants to have "RC Willey Stadium" or "Totally Awesome Soccer Stadium" or "Miller Field" or "Ken Garff Automobile Plaza and Soccer Stadium" or somesuch nonesense.

I'm sure there are others who can create better "chunderiffic" names that we DON'T want!

What are you talking about? I would love it to be called Totally Awesome Soccer Stadium-TASS for short.

I think you have to take the "Pizza Hut Park" name with a multi-million dollar grain of salt. Dallas is almost profitable from just the naming rights and the suites...wow.

I received an email yersterday from Kris Katseanas regarding renewing my season tickets. But this struck me at first but then made me happy....

With the impending announcement of a Stadium for the 2007 season, next year will create your position in seat location and priority for the new stadium. Basically, everything regarding your seats that you would hope to have in the new stadium could be cemented in place with your purchase for next year.

"impending announcement of a Stadium for the 2007 season"

Do we still think we can have it done by 2007?

Hey I am all for a 2007 date for the new SSS to open. But Checketts said in his radio interview (a month ago now?) that RSL was going to sign on for another year with RES for 2007.
Of course, Mr. Checketts also said that they were going to announce something by Labor Day...
