Actually IBIK they were put in the game programs twice last season. It was quite expensive to get them printed. We could only afford to do it twice and when it did not make a difference. The cost became an issue.

We have had volunteers at the gates handing out chant sheets, they hand them out at the booth and the chants can be printed from the Loyalists website along with soundbytes on how they are supposed to sound.

I suppose we could go to each person in the stadium and hold the chant sheets for them and maybe sing and chant for them to...

I guess my point is that we can do all of the stuff that is talked about on this thread... but it all comes down to fan willingness to participate... and if we are not offering free buckets of chicken or something... well you know...

Hopefully in time all the things that are being done to get fans involved will pay off... but it won't happen overnight!

Call me stubborn but I refuse to believe that we're stuck where we are, that this will never get bigger, that the stadium will never get louder. If there's no solution why are we complaining?

If putting song sheets in the program is too expensive, maybe the focus should be more local. Let's xerox 100 at Kinko's and pass them out at portals 31-33 (Loyalists) and 37-39 (RCB).

Everything may come down to fan willingness, but I think it's important to understand WHY fans aren't willing to stand or cheer. Maybe it's time to do a survey. I think you'll find people have a lot of misconceptions about what it takes to get involved. Then you can start addressing those incorrect ideas. But I don't believe there are only 50 people in the whole stadium who are willing to cheer.

Regardless of what the solution(s) are, one thing is clear to me: If the groups want to get more people involved, the focus has to shift more outward than it is today.

I don't believe we are stuck either. these things take time to build. Arsenal fans didn't start cheering from the stands on day one. Traditions take time to develop. If they don't develop then it is not from a lack of trying. We are a fledling group of fans and hopefully as the sport grows in America as the US State Department is reporting... Our traditions will grow as well. Trust me when i say that we are not being complacent.

All your ideas are good ones and I hope that we can put you down as a volunteer to help make those things happen. I am sure that others share your enthusiasm and will be just as willing to help out!

Thanks

Well not to be rude or anything but I sat next to the loyalists the last half of the season and never saw chants on paper. I know they are on the website but the other fans out there dont. I like the idea of printing some out and just handing them to the ppl sitting in the sections next to us...then let it spread from there later.

And this forum is for ideas and to voice our opinion, so please continue to feel free to do so. Everyones opinions matter here.

And thanks Laura for inviting me to help with the booth, that makes me feel welcome! I cant at the next game but count me in after that.

Well not to be rude back at ya... but I will bet you didn't see the sun rise in Japan yesterday... but I am willing to bet it happened. 😉

I like alot of the ideas that are happening on here... regardless of how many times they have been suggested. I say keep them coming but don't be surprized if someone asks you to participate in making your ideas happen.

Glad to hear you will be in the Loyalists booth soon.... they are doing a fantastic job and can really use some help to make it even better.

Thanks

We did it a couple of times during the first half of the season. It didn't help much, so I think we tried to move on to different ideas. I looked around and didn't see anyone referring to their chant sheet at all during the game. They just ended up as garbage on the ground.

I'm all for trying this again, but if the past is any indicator it isn't the most successful thing to do.

I like the idea of doing a survey. Maybe we can come up with a survey that has a couple of questions that we ask people around the stadium to see how we are viewed and what we can actually do to help people get involved. Having some real data would to work with would probably help out a lot rather than just having us guess what will work. Maybe this is something that all the supporter's groups can do together.

I'm glad you are going to help out, but just to let everyone else out there know, we are always willing to accept volunteers for just about anything. If you want to get involved, just let us know.

Maybe we try it again with the one difference being somebody/a few people turn around to announce the next chant so the people around & behind know what we're doing. Right now our chant selection is very ad hoc (nothing wrong with that, just hard to follow). As I said before, a more outward focus would probably make a huge difference.

I've been summoned back to the west side for the LAG game, but at the next 7:00 game I'll volunteer to pass out sheets at one of portals. I will also volunteer to write a more concise chant sheet (with info on when we sing each song), and I will also write a survey if anyone wants to pursue this idea.

Thats awesome IBIK...the more ppl we get involved the faster all the supporters will grow. A lot of us have gotten to know each other over the last yr through games, tailgates, events, etc. I agree we need to "reach out" to everyone, not just those of us who spend entirely too much time at a computer screen! 🙂

I also thought it was funny that when they thought they could win something the west side suddenly peeped up and actually made some noise after being quiet most of the game. I like the idea of the section being the loudest DURING the game to win a prize (I dont need a prize to be loud but apparently some ppl do).
I'm planning on having an actual 'stache during the next home game, as are many of the RCB guys. I think this would be great!

And on another note: I have friends in the North and West stands who also said they could only hear the drums and not the chants, contrary to last year where they could mainly hear the chants. (they also mentioned something about needing more practice......). I like the idea of letting the Sambas do the drumming and having the Loyalists and RCB's do the chanting.
This would be difficult to coordinate properly, if not impossible. We just need more people in both sections doing the chants. Fue's idea of 3 core chants that we always go back to (based on the time of the game) is one of the best ideas I've ever heard on these boards!
