Actually it's an idea I got from Old Ska. You start a chant, you chant it until action on the field dictates a change. That could be 20 minutes, it could be 40. You need the patience (and the drummers in charge have to have the patience) to go for that long chanting the same thing.

My .02.

IBIK is hitting the nail on the head in my opinion. We need to focus outward and many of his ideas are also the same thoughts I had running through my head:

What are the current problems:
1) People can't hear us (this season so far)
2) The chants are too sporadic and too short lived to follow along with.
3) The chants are too complicated or the words aren't understood/known to follow along with.

What can we do about them:
1) Focused efforts. If we can involve more people in our local area (E31-E33) it could have dramatic affect on the rest of the stadium. People will be able to hear us again.
2) Core chants. If we focus primarily on a few popular and easy chants. It will be easier for people to know what to chant and how to chant along with it.
3) Timing of chants. If we can focus certain chants at certain times of the game, the schedule and routine will help people know when to participate. This would also solve potential coordination issues with RCB. Examples:
------ After a goal: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole
------ RSL Corner: Goooooo Real (Salt Lake)
------ Spectacular play followed by lull ("Andy Williams" clap, clap, clapclapclap or "Andy" Ahaahahahaaha (Thunderstruck)
------ Substitution: same as above but for the new player coming in to get them riled up.

And so forth.

Additionally, handing out chant sheets at our portals may help facilitate this more quickly, but if we do the above, it will likely help anyways, though more slowly. Lastly, if we did a one-time promotion at the gate, in the program or wherever that invited people to chant/sit with us regardless of membership or current seating arrangements for a game that may bolster our numbers significantly.

I do know that Merrill does visit this site and that he an the Cup are in charge of this, so I decided to post here instead of emailing them so that everyone else could see my thoughts and praise me accordingly for them.

I have really enjoyed the energy and the ideas on this thread. It is exciting to me because I definitely have dreams of the stadium singins in unison at least parts of the games...that would be awesome. I think it is important to recognize all the hard work and effort that has been going into this goal for the past couple of years. I hope none of the older members feel like they are being criticized or that their efforts are being discounted. It is because of you we are all here.

I was thinking about how to implement some of these ideas and it seems like maybe a meeting of the committee is in order. That way we can through out ideas and then those who are willing will get specific assignments. I think it could really aid our organization. I know there have been other meetings but maybe one in which those who are most interest in stadium craziness could be present. Maybe at the next tailgate we could all get together, make plans, incorporate the new blood (like myself), and get organized. Merrill, how does a meeting sound to you?

A meeting sounds great. Anyone interested is invited. I said before in this thread, I have the answer to getting the whole crowd involved. It's long, so I'm not going to type out the whole thing right now. I'm working up a letter that I will be presenting to the FO to get it all in motion. It involves a little of all that we have discussed. Come to the tailgate on the 29th and I'll explain it all.

There is something to be said about the chants going on much longer. We definitely needed to do that. We will do a better job of that next week. It was after all, the first game of the year. We were not in midseason form yet. And we were a few drums down. Loyal1 was working, and my drum's still busted from last years Day of the Dead Chivas match.

If you are interested, seriously send me an email and let me know. The committee is more of an idea group. We are trying to improve the atmosphere, and there are several things that I'd like to do. If you feel that it is important like I do, please let me know.

We will accomplish the most if we work together. We will run in circles if we do not.

my last input here:

I would concern myself with helping the main group have more fun first before worrying about how much singing/fun is had by others.

work internally, people will want to participate on their own level.

have fun. what more can I say.

I agree. Many of my ideas, and others ideas involve internal rather than external.

I'm excited to see so many people interested at all. I tried starting this discussion a few months before the season and it was chirping crickets and an occasional passing tumbleweed, and me (...oh, The Cup showed up for a little while too.)

Looking forward to this upswell of involvement.

I'd think it were neat if people did make use of printed chants. I made copies for the Blitzz and last year for RSL. At first I thought it odd that people didn't read and memorize quicker at a sporting event.

I know there are places and ways to learn chants. May I sugest this one.

Yea, I know 20k fans aren't going to go there... but you can.
