I hope so too. I just don't have any confidence it will happen.

I don't believe our current bad luck is coaching. I realy think we'll see a good season, and we'll finish it out with our coaching staff intact.

I hope the coming home series will bear out my "gut feeling".

I really didn't think I'd ever say this ... but ... well said.

Coach E may not have "gifted the ball to Landon" but his continued lack in having his team mentally ready to play did. I truly believe Ellinger just doesn't know how to motivate professional players. He may have been good at motivating young guys, but pro's are a whole different ballgame. Just one more reason added to the growing list of reasons to bring someone else in.

The only way coaches motivate professional athletes is if they are worried about losing playing time if they don't perform.

Either a player acts like a professional, or he doesn't. There is very little a coach can do about that. Professional sports are all about the athletes.

Then why have a coach at all? You can't tell me that the only reason the coaches are there is to call a formation or two and come up with the line-up and subs.

A good coach knows his players and knows what motivates them. A good coach prepares his team for every game. A good coach helps his players excel and win games. A good coach can make even a mediocre player look great by providing decent prepration and training. Coach E may be a swell guy and he may know a lot about soccer. He may even be a good coach in certain circumstances (with the youth, for example). He is most certainly not a good coach at this level.

I'm not ready to call for E's head yet. This is the second year of a revamped expansion team. There is going to need to be some time to gell.

I like the youth they drafted with Mehdi and Johnson but they aren't ready to start anywhere other than for RSL.

If you look at the back line we have and besides Eddie we have at best a USL defensive line. I like Torres but Talley and Brown are woefully out of position. We are going to get lit up once Eddie goes to the WC.

Has anyone seen Chris Klein yet? He is awesome on set pieces but it would be nice if someone decided to actually pass him the ball during the course of the game.

We don't have the talent yet to think we should dominate anybody. This is a building process and our pieces still need some upgrading. That takes time. On a positive note. We should get the Number 1 overall draft pick...

Like hell there isn't - bench the guy! I think it would benefit Ell to spend a day with Jerry Sloan (yeah, the Jazz suck, but it's not for the same reasons RSL suck). I'm hoping that the Cunningham/Williams subs are the beginning of Ellinger understanding that he holds all the cards.

However his decision to replace Williams with Chris freakin' Brown is puzzling. Yeah, I know it's hard to play against a 4-3-3 with a 3-5-2 and blah blah blah, but it's still 11 v 11 (well, until Kreis gets ejected). When you need a goal there's no excuse for pulling a mid and replacing him with a defender. Especially when that defender is Chris freakin' Brown. So when Ellinger gets questioned about that move, what does he say? "I wanted to stop the bleeding." Hmmmm, to me that sounds like we're packing it in in an attempt to keep the score close. When you're down a goal you've got to get forward, period! You don't get extra points for only losing by a goal (which, by the way, has happened in our last 3 losses).

And oh yeah, Ryan Johnson played pretty well, but it was Ballouchy that made the difference. Why was Mehdi coming off the bench for Ryan instead of the other way around? That's right, because coach said Ryan was a better player. Thanks for reminding me, coach.

Two final thoughts:
1. Ellinger is making some really strange decisions.
2. This team misses Jamie Watson more than we know.

One thing that bugs me is the Cabrera situation.

We're using a senior international spot on a reserve team player?

Pastorino and the front office staff, in my opinion, share some of the blame for that. Maybe we spent all of our player budget on Leonardo's costume?

But with his experience with the Under 17s, you'd figure that Ellinger should know lots of good international players who would not require huge transfer fees or salaries and who could immediately make an impact with the first team.

As it is now, a senior international player on RSL has had the career outlook of an ensign in a red shirt on the original Star Trek.
