For his replacement what about any of Bruce Arena's assistants. Or a retired very intense veteran of the MLS or any other good league. What about and first or second division coach from Europe. There are options and we need to find someone quick. That is your homework for the night Checketts, and you wont get your allowance(my money) until its done!

"While we acknowledge that building a winning team can take time, Real Salt Lake has set too many records for incompetence, including the longest single-season goalless streak in MLS history, the longest winless streak in MLS history, and the inability to achieve even one road win to date. We believe that with the current talent pool Real Salt Lake should not consistently be the worst team in the league. With numerous off-season roster changes without any improvement in team performance it is now clear that the cause of the problem is Head Coach John Ellinger." We're only #2 on the winless streak...99 Tards had 19 games... Other than that, unfortunately, I agree with the sentiment.

Petition to fire Ellinger This was buried in another thread. It deserves it's own thread.

Three reasons firing Ellinger at this point would be the wrong thing to do:
1) Ellinger wasn't brought to RSL to make the team a winner in two years. He was brought to develop the youth. It seems he is doing that, but I realize that those who are impatient for a win don't see that. His job is to build youth. The vets' job is to be a part of that process and to work their butts off. If anything, fire the vets that stand and watch the game as Williams and Cunny were doing when Ellinger sat them down. 2) Who would replace him now? I've seen a lot of names floated out by win-hungry fans, but none that would do it this side of the world cup. At least, no one that would be more proven as a head coach. 3) RSL is coming out of a difficult stretch of games. No person with half a brain predicted more than a lucky win or two this year against LA, Houston and Dallas. While the way the loss came to Chivas was disappointing as was the tie to NY, RSL has some games coming that will result in victories. 4 out of the next 5 games are at home against (with exception to KC) very beatable teams. To mess with the coaching staff would certainly make that stretch as frustrating as the first month. Keep Ellinger and you'll see in the long run that the leadership has a plan. Fire him and you'll never know anything but a mediocer team.

John Harkes?
Mauricio Cienfuegos? I've often thought that Cienfuegos would make a great coach. Jason Kreis' old teammate Hugo Sanchez? But Sanchez would be back in the LMF as soon as a job opened up down there.

Ellinger was brought in for the same reason Steve Pastorino was brought in: to win games and eventually bring a championship trophy to Salt Lake. It ain't happening... Let's get someone who can make it happen... __________________
